Mother’s Day gift ideas for the wine lover

While you were growing up, you probably gave your mum a lot of grief, and there were thousands of moments when all she wanted was a little wine. Or a lot of wine. In fact, you’re probably the reason she loves her vino so much, so this Mother’s Day, give a little back and buy her a good bottle. Here are a few suggestions for wine hampers. A lot of dedicated gift baskets come with champagne, but if mama prefers rose or red, you can add that in too.

Sparkling gift basket

This basket is ideal for the Aussie mum that likes her whites sparkling (and not just in the washing machine). The gift basket has a literal hand-made basket, which makes a great souvenir and is handy to carry for grocery shopping. It comes with a bottle of Australian Trilogy Sparkling White Wine, named because it’s made from three grapes. (That’s hopefully three varieties of grapes, as opposed to three actual grapes …)

The hamper also contains nougat and melting moments, with flavours carefully selected to match the bouquet of the wine (passion fruit, raspberry, almond, and honey). All gift baskets from this supplier include a complimentary gift card that she can redeem at her preference, and if you want to customise the basket, you can pay a little extra and add some red wine or her liquor of choice.

Put a cork in it

Gifts for wine lovers don’t always have to be wine gift baskets.  If mum loves DIY and has a drawer full of corks, you can add a Wine Cork Message Board Kit to her Mother’s Day hamper. It contains a messaging frame, hanging hook, and instructions, so she can put it together for her own little wine-inspired bulletin board.

The corks are great for pinning messages, since thumb tacks can easily stick into them. It’s way cooler than fridge magnets, and the whiff from assorted corks will fill her space with a pleasant mixed-wine smell. If she’s low on corks, you could collect some for her and add them to the hamper. Throw in a classy Collapsible Wine Bottle Party Tote to make her vino excursions easier. She’ll never have to worry about breaking her bottles again!

Gourmet Gift Hampers

Cheese and Wine Duo

For the cheesy mum (or her confused offspring) this gift hamper can’t go wrong. You’re probably pretty sure whether your mum likes cheese, so if you’re unclear on her wine preference, buy this basket. It contains both red and white wine (DArenberg Shiraz and Maria Sauvignon) plus tons of cheese and crackers.

The cheese of choice is brie, and it comes with accompaniments including Barossa bark, hand-made lavosh, sticky figs, muscatels, walnut logs, and a set of dipping bowls. Everything is lovingly packed into a gift box, tied with a ribbon, and topped with a gift card. If the brie isn’t enough for your mum’s cheesy tastes, you can add some extra pieces to the hamper.

A pack of wine accessories

To get your mum something truly memorable, put together a gift bag of assorted wine accessories. Some options include a Wine Rack with Chalk Boards. It has shiny twisted wire to hold the bottles, and miniature chalkboards for tasting notes. Add a set of Riedel ‘O’ wine tasting glasses for those wine touror book club nights, and a stylish Sangria pitcher for her patented home-made recipe.

Top off the gift bag with a few pieces of her favourite cheese or chocolate and some scented candles. If mama is a reader, go to Oprah’s book list (or any other celebrity book lover) and buy her a few relevant titles that she can enjoy on a soothing evening. If she’s more gadgetty, load the books onto her tablet … or buy her the latest Kindle.

Rewined and bubbles

Another interesting combo for Mother’s Day is a Rewined pairing of Canard-Bruchene champagne rose and a scented wine-bottle candle. The wax is poured by hand, made of soy, and scented with champagne flavouring. Then, to make mum a special Mother’s Day breakfast, top up the basket with a breakfast kit from Stonewall.

The set contains a Bellini mixer, silicone spatula, ceramic batter bowl, blueberry jam and syrup, and a pancake & waffle mix. There’s also a bottle of fruity Tiamo Prosecco white wine. If you really want to score some points, give her the hamper on Mother’s Day, then use its items to serve her breakfast in bed. After all, pancakes only take a few minutes…
